HYDERABAD: UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi will address a public meeting in Medchal Assembly constituency on November 23. “People of Telangana know that it was Sonia Gandhi’s decision that led to carving out of the new state of Telangana from undivided Andhra Pradesh. Rahul Gandhi’s first public meeting earlier this year in Sanga Reddy gave the much-needed impetus to the Congress party. Her appeal to vote for the Congress-led Peoples’ Front is bound to be received well by the people.

HYDERABAD: UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi will address a public meeting in Medchal Assembly constituency on November 23. Though Telangana Congress leaders wanted her to cover even Gajwel segment, AICC leaders decided to confine her meeting to a location near the city keeping in mind her health condition.As per the tentative itinerary of Sonia Gandhi, she will arrive at Begumpet airport at 5pm by a special aircraft and leave for New Delhi at 8pm after addressing the public meeting. She is expected to travel by road from Begumpet airport to Medchal public meeting venue, a distance of less than 40km.The Congress is planning to mobilise 2 to 3 lakh people from Medchal segment and 10 to 12 more Assembly segments from north and south Telangana. “People of Telangana know that it was Sonia Gandhi’s decision that led to carving out of the new state of Telangana from undivided Andhra Pradesh. Her appeal to vote for the Congress-led Peoples’ Front is bound to be received well by the people. Rahul Gandhi’s first public meeting earlier this year in Sanga Reddy gave the much-needed impetus to the Congress party. Now, Sonia Gandhi’s public meeting would change the poll atmosphere leading to formation of Congress-led Peoples’ Front government in Telangana,” said TPCC president Uttam Kumar Reddy.Sources said a decision is yet to be taken whether to invite the leaders of TTDP, CPI and TJS — the alliance partners in the Peoples’ Front — to share the dais with Sonia Gandhi. “After Sonia Gandhi, Congress president Rahul Gandhi would also tour Telangana and address five to six rallies. We are working out venues and our effort is to ensure that he covers the Assembly constituencies in both north and south Telangana,” said a senior leader.Among the venues under consideration are Nalgonda, Karimnagar, Warangal, Khammam, Mahbubnagar, Gadwal, Suryapet and Medak. The dates of Rahul’s visit are yet to be finalised.
