Over 700 held for drunk driving till Jan 15

HYDERABAD: Continuing their special drive against drunk drivers, traffic police caught 724 drivers till January 15 for driving the vehicles in an inebriated state. The traffic police informed that this special drive against drunk driving and other traffic violations will continue for the safety of commuters and pedestrians. Out of these, 10 were permanently cancelled and 46 were suspended temporarily.The total fine amount imposed on these violators by the courts is ?15,46,600. All the violators that were sentenced to imprisonment were sent to Chanchalguda jail. Police filed chargesheets against the offenders in the Metropolitan Magistrate courts, resulting in 79 persons being sentenced to imprisonment for varying durations and driving licenses of 56 persons was either permanently cancelled or suspended.

All the violators that were sentenced to imprisonment were sent to Chanchalguda jail. “The offenders who were convicted in drunken drive and other cases may face difficulties in getting government jobs, passport and visa clearance,” a press release said.The violators also attended a counselling session with their family member at Traffic Training Institute (TTI) in Goshamahal and Begumpet Apart from this, two persons who were driving without license were imprisoned for two days and one persons was imprisoned for five days. The traffic police informed that this special drive against drunk driving and other traffic violations will continue for the safety of commuters and pedestrians.
