Workers were chopping the meat in cellars. When it came to vegetables, the condition was worse. Veggies were found to be dumped near washbasins, parking lots and silt chambers. Chefs and waiters were not using proper gear. One of the popular biryani joints in Ramachandra Puram was sealed as it could not produce a trade licence or a fire safety clearance. GHMC imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on a Nallagandla bakery for selling fungus-laced bread. In Kukatpally , a bar was penalised for its unclean conditions and using unstamped meat. In an earlier raid, outdated spices were found at a hotel in Moosapet circle. Another popular food joint was using leftover food.Doctors spelled out the dangers. “Consumption of stale food, especially meat, may result in diseases like cholera, viral gastroenteritis bacillus cereus and botulism, all life threatening diseases,” said Dr Rahul Agarwal, senior consultant from a Madhapur hospital.Susprisingly, however, GHMC’s health wing has not even updated its records of the hotels inspected and the penalties imposed.
