Hyd water board deputy GM suspended for fraud

Recently, the vigilance wing registered a FIR against three persons, including a water board official and two outsourcing contract workers for tampering with the water board’s official records by stealing a retired Water Board official’s login and password. Only the managing director is authorised to waive an amount that is over Rs 1 lakh. HYDERABAD: Sleuths of Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board ( HMWSSB ) vigilance wing suspended a deputy general manager for waiving water bills of 381 consumers amounting to Rs 1.96 crore.K Ravinder, a HMWSSB official, had passed credit notes worth Rs 1.96 crore by violating the HMWSSB Act between 2015 and 2018, officials said.The suspended official was working as deputy general manager (Beeramguda section) in operation and maintenance (O&M) Division-XVIII ( Manikonda ) and had committed the offence while serving as DGM (Chandanagar). “We identified a total of 381 consumer account numbers (CAN) in O&M Division-XVIII from 2015 to 2018 and a thorough examination revealed how Ravinder had passed credit notes worth Rs 1.96 crore by violating the HMWS&SB Act,” vigilance wing station house officer P Tirupathi told TOI.To waive the water dues of a consumer, a deputy general manager can pass credit up to Rs 5,000 only. However, Ravinder, violating the rules and regulations of credit limit, waived bills between Rs 1 lakh and Rs 7 lakh to each consumer, said SHO, Tirupathi.On Monday, the HMWSSB Personnel & Administration (P&A) wing suspended the water board official and said that a probe is under way to find out the favours received by Ravinder in return for the work.This is the second instance within a span of two weeks, unearthed by the commissioner.
