Another MP quits TDP, joins YSRCP

VIJAYAWADA: Ruling TDP in Andhra Pradesh suffered a jolt on Monday with another MP quitting the party and joining the Opposition YSR Congress. The BJP also suffered with its sitting MLA from Rajahmundry Akula Satyanarayana quitting the party and joining Jana Sena a few weeks ago. TDP MP from Amalapuram, P Ravindra Babu, a first-timer, joined the YSR Congress, giving a jolt to AP chief minister Chandrababu Naidu.Ravindra Babu was the second MP to leave the party after Anakapalli MP Muthamsetti (Avanthi) Srinivas. It was former assembly speaker and former Congress member, Nadendla Manohar had quit the Congress and joined the Jana Sena. Former Union ministers Kotla Suryaprakash Reddy and V Kishore Chandra Deo have set the dates for switching over loyalties to the TDP in the next two weeks.

The TDP has also lost three MLAs, Ravela Kishore Babu to the Jana Sena and Meda Mallikharjuna Reddy and Amanchi Krishna Mohan to the YSRC.Rumours are doing rounds that another TDP MLA, Thotha Thrimurthulu, from East Godavari district is also actively considering to quit TDP and join the YSRC. He is likely to make a call in a day or two, and is busy holding consultations with his supporters.The joining of both Anakapalli and Amalapuram MPs, two out of the four MPs from East Godavari district, is set to have some positive impact for the YSR Congress in the elections. It started with former minister Daggubati Venkateswara Rao joining the party followed by one of the TDP founding members Dasari Jairamesh and former MLA Adusumilli Jayaprakash, all belonging to the Kamma community, which is the backbone of the TDP in the state.The state has been witnessing a number of defections of the leaders from one party to the other. It was former assembly speaker and former Congress member, Nadendla Manohar had quit the Congress and joined the Jana Sena. The Congress is suffering heavily from the defections continuing ahead of elections. Former Union ministers Kotla Suryaprakash Reddy and V Kishore Chandra Deo have set the dates for switching over loyalties to the TDP in the next two weeks. The BJP also suffered with its sitting MLA from Rajahmundry Akula Satyanarayana quitting the party and joining Jana Sena a few weeks ago.
