HYDERABAD: In what appears to be a case of ‘murder-suicide’, an Indian-American couple from Hyderabad were found dead in their apartment at Telfair in Texas, US. Srinivas Nakirekanti is believed to have shot dead his wife Shanti before he shot himself.The couple’s 16-year-old daughter was also at home but told police she was asleep at the time of incident and was not aware of what had happened. The couple also have a son who is said to be studying at the University of Texas and was not at home when the incident took place.It is said that some neighbours who heard gunshots alerted the police who reached the spot early morning on February 18. The Sugar Land police department who got a call at 5.40 am dispatched a team to the place and after preliminary investigation put out information in the public domain immediately that the SLPD was working a fatality in Telfair subdivision. “There is no danger to residents, and SLPD is not looking for any suspects,” it said. The SLP said it was investigating a ‘possible murder-suicide’.While the reasons for the incident were yet to be clearly ascertained by the police, it is being said that there could have been domestic issues that made Srinivas take the extreme step.Shanti’s body was found in the driveway with a gunshot on her head, while Sreenivas was found dead in the bedroom and he had a gunshot wound on his chest. Police found a gun in the room, according to a media report.The reports also said that a friend of Sreenivas had received an email from him at 5 am but the police had advised them not to share the contents with anyone considering that an investigation was on.Srinivas Nakirekanti was also the president of Indo-American Charity Foundation. He worked as director, Reliant (NRG) Energy.In her LinkedIn profile, Shanti Nakirekanti described herself as project lead/architect at United Airlines. She also pursued her education from Texas A&M University getting an MS in computer science degree from there. She studied BE in electronics and community from Osmania University in Hyderabad. She was also senior consultant/project manager with Chevron and prior to that worked as manager with United Airlines.Shanti Nakirekanti was the project lead architect at United Airlines, according to her LinkedIn profile. She had previously worked as a project manager at Chevron in Houston . Shanti listed her causes on Linked In as ‘animal welfare, environment, science and technology’.Sreenivas also studied in the same Texas A&M university in college station and got a master’s degree in mechanical engineering. In addition, he got his MBA degree form Rice University , Houston, Texas.
