HYDERABAD: Alleging that Maheshwara Medical College and Hospital in Patancheru has not been conducting classes for more than a month, students, parents and teachers from the institute met officials of Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS), on Tuesday, demanding immediate intervention. About 50 parents went to Warangal to submit a request asking university officials to make sure classes resume.Prabhakar P, a parent, who visited KNRHUS on Tuesday, said: "This is the second time parents met university officials over the issue. In the first week of February, a parent went and registered a complaint. Though the varsity registrar issued a notice on February 8, the college management did nothing to resolve the issue. They did not even bother to respond to varsity's notice."Parents said they even met the chairman and director of the college several times, but in vain. "We have met them more than six times requesting them to resolve the issue. All they have done is make false promises," said Bhadri B, whose daughter is in second year. The college began operations in 2016-17. Last year it reported zero admissions.On February 14, parents said, the director gave them a written assurance that classes would start from February 18. "On behalf of the college, I wish to confirm that the class of the second year, fourth semester will be regularised from February 18. Financial issues will be addressed for the smooth functioning of college and hostel. We are ready to engage extra classes to cover the syllabus at the satisfaction of the students," read the letter. But nothing happened."Yesterday (February 18), we waited till afternoon, but no one from management was present. That's when we decided to meet the varsity officials," said Vijaya Lakshmi, a parent.The faculty claimed the management has not been paying them salaries for six months . "We continued to teach students till January as they had exams in February. But now, we will resume work only after our dues are paid," said a faculty member.Speaking to TOI, vice-chancellor of KNRUHS, B Karunakar Reddy, said they will wait for hree-four days to see if the college responds.
