Illegal buildings: Telangana high court raps GHMC chief, sees civic staff complicity

“Everyday, we come across 30 to 40 new petitions that inform the court about new illegal buildings and your inaction. We will soon come out with a special tribunal to deal with these problems in a more practical way,” he told the court. “We will use satellite technology to track the status of buildings so that we will know who is taking permission for lesser floors and later raising more illegal floors. He then sought an action plan from the commissioner to deal with the menace of illegal structures in the city.Explaining his position, Kishore told HC that the offenders were approaching civil courts and obtaining injunction orders and rendering them helpless. HYDERABAD: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation ( GHMC ) commissioner M Dana Kishore on Thursday incurred the wrath of Telangana high court for not complying with a court order in respect of demolishing an illegal structure at Vivek Nagar in Chikkadpally.The civic body chief and two other GHMC officials appeared before the court after they were slapped with a contempt case in the last hearing because they failed to physically inspect the site and structures and furnish a status report despite being asked to do so by the court in a case filed by U Gopalakrishna Murthy of Chikkadapally. The petitioner’s complaint was that his neighbour had obtained permission for stilt plus two floors, but later constructed three more floors over and above the permitted level.Accordingly, Kishore and other civic officials appeared before HC on Thursday and were taken to task by Justice Challa Kodanda Ram. “Everyday, we come across 30 to 40 new petitions that inform the court about new illegal buildings and your inaction. Maybe some of your lower rung staff are hand in glove with them, and that is the reason why we want you to know the ground reality. That is the purpose of calling you,” the judge told them.
