ORR mishap: Car co told to look into cause of fire

Around 11.20am on Wednesday, the Maruti Celerio (TS 07 GM 4666) driven by the victim, G Venkata Giri, senior manager with Gangavaram Port Ltd, caught fire at Sultanpur. Other than the metal frame and metal parts of the vehicle, everything was gutted by the fire . Giri was burnt alive in his vehicle.As several witnesses saw Venkata Giri puling over the blazing car from right to left lane of the ORR, police were trying to figure out why he was unable to get out of the vehicle. The executive’s family members told police that he started from the house around 9.30am. By looking at it, it is difficult to say what caused the fire accident.

HYDERABAD: A hatchback which went up in flames on the Outer Ring Road ( ORR ) near Sultanpur resulting in the death of its lone occupant, a Gangavaram Port Ltd executive, was manufactured four months ago.As the car was new, police wrote to auto major Maruti Suzuki to inspect the vehicle and figure out the possible reason for the blaze. Police were also keen on analysing call detail record (CDR) of the victim as he took about two hours to reach the accident spot after leaving his residence in Bowrampet. Around 11.20am on Wednesday, the Maruti Celerio (TS 07 GM 4666) driven by the victim, G Venkata Giri, senior manager with Gangavaram Port Ltd, caught fire at Sultanpur. Giri was burnt alive in his vehicle.As several witnesses saw Venkata Giri puling over the blazing car from right to left lane of the ORR, police were trying to figure out why he was unable to get out of the vehicle. While Clues Team collected forensic evidence from the spot, fire department officials and the motor vehicle inspector observed the place and the gutted car.The hatchback, which was registered in Giri’s wife Sreedevi’s name on January 25, 2019, was manufactured on November 1, 2018.The victim’s skeletal remains were recovered from the gutted car.“The car was pretty new. Other than the metal frame and metal parts of the vehicle, everything was gutted by the fire . By looking at it, it is difficult to say what caused the fire accident. So, we have written to Maruti to send their technical team to inspect the vehicle and also check the car servicing record to see if any alterations were made in the vehicle, which might have caused the fire,” Ameenpur inspector S Prabhakar said.When the mishap occurred, Giri was going to his office on Road Number 36, Jubilee Hills. The executive’s family members told police that he started from the house around 9.30am. As it would take less than 30 minutes to reach Sultanpur, where the accident happened, from his house in Bowrampet, police wanted to see where Giri was for the rest of the time.Cops applied for the victim’s CDR to see where he was and if he spoke to anyone before the fire. A case of suspicious death was registered under Section 174 of CrPC.
