CAA: Azad along with women protesters detained in Hyderabad

A+ A-Hyderabad: Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad along with some Anti-CAA women protesters has been detained by Telangana Police on Sunday. One, at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) in Abdullapurmet and the other at Crystal Garden in Mehdipatnam. He tweeted: “I am at TISS Hyderabad. Azad had earlier tweeted that security had been stepped up at the venue and that the police were preventing people from going to Crystal Garden. The Hyderabad police had placed large barricades near Crystal Garden and were asking people to leave, claiming that the protesters did not have permission to gather there.

One, at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) in Abdullapurmet and the other at Crystal Garden in Mehdipatnam. TISS protest meet Azad attended public meeting at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) at Abdullapurmet which was organized by the Students’ Union against the amended Citizenship Act, National Population Register (NPR) and National Register of Citizens (NRC). Earlier today, the Bhim Army Chief had tweeted that female students from TISS are being harassed at the police station. He tweeted: “I am at TISS Hyderabad. Since last night female students (have been detained) and sitting at a police station and they are being harassed. @rachakondacop should immediately come here otherwise we will surround the station.” “The humiliation of sisters will not be tolerated. Rachakonda police should immediately come here and respond, otherwise, we will be surrounding the police station,” he tweeted. Meet at Crystal Garden All India Dalit-Muslim-Adivasi Progressive Front and Bhim Army had earlier planned a protest meeting from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Crystal Garden near pillar number 86, Mehdipatnam. The programme was cancelled at the last minute as the police withdrew the permission it had given earlier. Chandra Shekhar Azad was detained while on his way to the gathering in Mehdipatnam. Azad was detained from Ashoka hotel located in Masab Tank area as he was about to leave for the event in Mehdipatnam. The police have taken him into preventive custody. Azad had earlier tweeted that security had been stepped up at the venue and that the police were preventing people from going to Crystal Garden. Around 200 students held the national flags and attempted to carry out a rally from their campus to the Ambedkar statue at Masjid Banda in Hyderabad. However, they were stopped at the gates of UoH as police had denied them permission for the event. –Ends-
