JAC Convener and Million March organizer, Mohammed Mushtaq Malik said, “The right to protest peacefully is enshrined in the Indian Constitution through Article 19(1)(a) — which guarantees freedom of speech and expression and Article 19(1)(b) —allowing citizens the right to assemble peaceably and without arms is a fundamental right. He also cited the Telangana statehood movement and the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) strike as similar examples of lawful protests. Hence he urged the Hyderabad City Police to not curtail a citizen’s fundamental right to protest,” Malik added.
