Water tops the charts in the manifesto of the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) ahead of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections. The TRS has promised free water supply for most consumers in Hyderabad and free power supply for certain categories of people.

There will be no water tax if the monthly consumption of drinking water is below 20,000 litres. Power will be provided free of cost to salons, dhobi ghats and laundries, the manifesto assured. The free drinking water supply would help 95 per cent of consumers in the city, TRS president and Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao told reporters after releasing the 16-page party manifesto for the GHMC polls here at Telangana Bhavan on Monday. The GHMC polls will be held on December 1. There are around 10 lakh consumers having drinking water connections in Hyderabad.

The TRS manifesto also promised to waive motor vehicle tax for two quarters during the COVID-19 period. The MV tax to be waived would be Rs 267 crore for 3,37,611 vehicles.

Three more Telangana Institutes of Medical Sciences (TIMS) will be set up in Hyderabad on the lines of the TIMS set up in Gachibowli.

Rao also assured that the Musi river will be linked with Godavari. Musi river will be developed like Thames river in London so that boating can be taken up there, said Rao. The Chief Minister said a comprehensive GHMC Act will be made soon for further development of Hyderabad.

"Our Hyderabad is a happening city. Investments are coming in a big way. In Hyderabad, Tamils, Keralites, Odisha, people from Bihar and other states will live in the city. We have Gujarati galli and Parsi gutta. Hyderabad city is like a bouquet. Think wisely and vote for TRS for peaceful Hyderabad," Chandrasekhar Rao appealed to the voters. Rao called upon the people not to vote for those who were playing the religious card.

He alleged that both the BJP and Congress have failed in leading the country. "The country needs a revolutionary change in politics," Rao felt and declared that he would take the lead for the change in the country. Rao already announced that he would convene a conclave of non-BJP parties in Hyderabad in the second week of December. The conclave would declare war against the disinvestment of public sector undertakings.
