Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has been entrusted with the responsibility of security of the Hyderabad campus of Bharat Biotech, manufacturer of the Covaxin. The company`s registered office and plant at Genome Valley in the Shamirpet area of Telangana capital Hyderabad would be guarded by a team of 64 armed personnel of paramilitary CISF.
Sources said that the Union Home Ministry had recently approved a proposal to deploy the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) for the security of this complex. After this, the force conducted a survey. An official said that it is an important organization when it comes to ensuring the medical and health security of the country and it is clearly under terrorist threat from various hostile elements.
"Therefore, the CISF has been entrusted with the task of guarding the Hyderabad unit of Bharat Biotech," he said. CISF Deputy Inspector General and Chief Spokesperson Anil Pandey said that the force will be deployed for security there from June 14.
Bharat Biotech manufactures Covaxin. After the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attack, the CISF was allowed to provide security to private establishments of public importance. The CISF guards around 10 such units across the country including Infosys` campuses in Pune and Mysore, Reliance IT Park in Navi Mumbai and yoga guru Ramdev`s Patanjali campus in Haridwar, Uttarakhand.
