Microsoft on Wednesday named Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Satya Nadella as the company`s new chairman.

Satya Nadella, a US citizen of Indian origin and CEO of Microsoft, is achieving greater heights every day. Microsoft on Wednesday named Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Satya Nadella as the company`s board chairman replacing John Thompson.

Thompson will now remain the principal independent director. In 2014, Thompson succeeded Bill Gates as the chairman of Microsoft. The company gave this information by issuing a statement

Nadella was made the Chief Executive Officer of Microsoft in 2014, replacing Steve Ballmer.

Early Life

Satya Nadella was born in the year 1967 in Hyderabad, India. His father was an administrative officer and his mother was a Sanskrit lecturer. He studied electrical engineering at Manipal Institute of Technology in the year 1988 after doing his early education at Hyderabad Public School. Later, he went to America to do his Masters in Computer Science. He did his MBA from the Booth School of Business in Chicago in 1996.

Journey at Microsoft

Nadella was one of the few employees who suggested the development of cloud computing to the firm. Satya was later given the responsibility of controlling the Department of Research and Development, which belonged to the Online Services Division and was also appointed as the Senior Vice President of the same. He joined this department in 2007 and remained a part of it for the next four years.

Nadella then moved to Microsoft`s Systems and Tools division and was appointed its chairman. Satya was given shares worth $7.9 million for being a part of Microsoft and also gets a salary of $700,000 per year. After working at the firm for a period of 22 years, Nadella was promoted to the position of CEO of Microsoft in 2014.
