Russian Covid Vaccine Sputnik V has been soft-launched in the country`s main cities of Bengaluru, Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi, Chennai, Visakhapatnam, Baddi, Kolhapur and Miryalaguda.

This vaccine will be made available to the general public from June 20. The price of the Sputnik V vaccine has been fixed by the central government at Rs 1145.

Two vaccines Covishield and Covaxin are already being administered in India, in such a situation, the third vaccine will give more strength to the country in the fight against Coronavirus.

The first jab of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine was given to Deepak Sapra on 15 May, Global Head of Custom Pharma Services of Dr Reddy Laboratories in Hyderabad.

After getting approval for emergency use for the vaccine in April, Dr Reddy`s in collaboration with Apollo Hospitals started the pilot project for Sputnik-V on 17 May.

Earlier it was launched in Hyderabad. Now it is being made available in Bangalore, Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi, Chennai, Baddi, Marialaguda and Kolhapur and other cities as well.

However, the Sputnik-V vaccine is not available on the CoWin portal yet. Dr Reddy`s Lab, which is handling its distribution in India, said that it will be available after the commercial launch.

The Sputnik V vaccine was created by the Russian Direct Investment Fund. In addition to Dr. Reddy`s, RDIF has tied up with Virchow Biotech, Gland Pharma, Panacea Biotech, Stellis Biopharma, Shilpa Medicare and Hetero Biopharma to produce vaccine supplements in the country.
