Andhra Pradesh knocks Supreme Court's door on Krishna Water Dispute with Telangana

The Andhra government says that the water level of the Srisailam dam has depleted significantly as Telangana is not allowing the water of the Krishna river to flow into it, but it is using most of it for power projects, while Andhra has a legal right over it.

Andhra Pradesh has Knocked Supreme Court`s door in the Krishna River Water Dispute. Andhra Pradesh government has filed a petition in the Supreme Court against Telangana alleging that Telangana is not providing its legitimate share of drinking and irrigation water. According to the petition, due to the Srisailam dam project in Telangana, the water supply has been severely depleted. The Andhra Pradesh government demanded Telangana to stop it but it ignored.

The Andhra government says that the water level of the Srisailam dam has depleted significantly as Telangana is not allowing the water of the Krishna river to flow into it, but it is using most of it for power projects, while Andhra has a legal right over it.

According to the petition, the availability of water in the Srisailam dam project, Nagarjuna Sagar project and the Pulichintala project, has been severely affected, which has caused great hardship to the people of the state of Andhra Pradesh.

Earlier this month, the water dispute between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh over the controversial project on the Krishna river escalated even further after Police of both states deployed heavy forces in their respective parts of the Pulichintala project. Police are guarding projects on the Krishna river like Nagarjuna Sagar and Pulichintala in the border areas of Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh and Nalgonda district of Telangana.
