Chief Justice NV Ramana made it clear that he would not decide on the legal issues involved in the matter, but if the states are coming forward to resolve the dispute through dialogue, the bench can assist in the mediation process.

Supreme Court Chief Justice NV Ramana recused himself from hearing the Krishna water dispute between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Both the states said that mediation was not possible and they wanted to settle it legally. In the last hearing, the Chief Justice had said that since he is from both the states, he can help in mediation in the matter.

Earlier, the Supreme Court had asked the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana governments to resolve the Krishna water dispute amicably. Chief Justice NV Ramana made it clear that he would not decide on the legal issues involved in the matter, but if the states are coming forward to resolve the dispute through dialogue, the bench can assist in the mediation process.

Referring to the Krishna river water sharing agreement, the Andhra government says that the Telangana government is refusing to give proper water to Andhra for its share of the people.

Andhra Pradesh alleges that the Telangana government is violating the Krishna River Water Agreement. Andhra has also made a complaint related to this to the Supreme Court. In this complaint, they have also mentioned the letter in which the supply of water from the Krishna river to Andhra has been denied.

While hearing this matter two days ago, it was said that both the states should mediate and if there is a legal hearing on this matter, then the CJI will not choose it.
