Nine schoolchildren hurt in Khammam road accident

Khammam Traffic Circle Inspector P Naresh Reddy visited the accident site and oversaw the shifting of the injured schoolchildren to the local hospitals. Nine students of the Kendriya Vidyalaya sustained injuries due to the impact of the collision. Khammam traffic police have booked the drivers of both the vehicles involved in the collision. Meanwhile, Nagaraju, the corporator of the 26th division of Khammam Municipal Corporation, submitted a memorandum to the RTC authorities here on Tuesday seeking introduction of bus services to the Kendriya Vidyalaya to ensure the safety of the schoolchildren. Nine schoolchildren were injured, three of them grievously, when an overloaded autorickshaw they were travelling in, was hit by a private school bus near the office of the Road Transport Authority (RTA) on the bypass here on Tuesday.

Sources said that a speeding bus belonging to a private school rammed into the jam-packed autorickshaw ferrying as many as 13 students to the Polepalli-based Kendriya Vidyalaya on the busy bypass here on Tuesday morning. The two vehicles were proceeding at a high speed when they collided along the high traffic density stretch of the bypass, sources added. The accident brought to sharp focus the unabated plying of overloaded autorickshaws carrying schoolchildren in blatant violation of the stipulated rules with impunity right under the nose of the transport officials concerned. Nine students of the Kendriya Vidyalaya sustained injuries due to the impact of the collision. Three of them received multiple injuries in the accident. Nikhil, a Class X student, has reportedly suffered multiple leg fractures. He was rushed to a Hyderabad-based super-speciality hospital after providing first aid in the 108 ambulance.
