Tractor-trolley overturns injuring 15 students

Vennela, a class VIII student, and two others sustained serious head injuries. As many as 15 students of Zilla Parishad High School at Gollapadu were injured, four of them grievously, when a tractor-trolley they were travelling in overturned on the Gollapadu-Teerthala road in Khammam rural mandal, late on Wednesday evening. The tractor-trolley carrying them overturned while negotiating a sharp curve near Gollapadu after the driver lost control of the vehicle apparently because of high speed. The incident occurred minutes after the schoolchildren hailing from Teerthala village boarded the cement bricks-laden tractor-trolley near their school to reach their village in the alleged absence of public transport service. The passers-by immediately rushed the injured students to the district headquarters hospital.

The passers-by immediately rushed the injured students to the district headquarters hospital. The condition of one of the student was stated to be serious.We had boarded the tractor-trolley after waiting for autorickshaws for considerable time in vain, said Arun, a class VIII student who suffered a bleeding injury in his nose in the accident. The accident exposed the vulnerability of schoolchildren to major road accidents involving overloaded private vehicles in the absence of RTC bus services to several villages in the districtsaid (PDSU) district president Suresh.
