Metro rail to be opened in phases

The first section of 30 km — Nagole to Miyapur through Ameerpet spread across two corridors: L.B. While land has been earmarked at 32 stations besides the depots at Miyapur, Nagole and Falaknuma, private landowners too are going to be involved in building multi-level complexes along the metro rail corridors and this could take up to a year or more. The entire 66 km of the Hyderabad Metro Rail project being built across three dense traffic corridors, save for the Old City stretch from MGBS to Falaknuma, would be opened in phases as soon as work is completed within the next one year, announced Minister for IT and Municipal Administration & Urban Development (MA&UD) K.T. Nagar to Miyapur of Corridor One and Nagole to Hi-Tec City/Raidurg of Corridor Two — is expected to be ready by mid-November. It would not have served any purpose as the road below too was about 150 ft,” he said.

more-in The entire 66 km of the Hyderabad Metro Rail project being built across three dense traffic corridors, save for the Old City stretch from MGBS to Falaknuma, would be opened in phases as soon as work is completed within the next one year, announced Minister for IT and Municipal Administration & Urban Development (MA&UD) K.T. Rama Rao. The first section of 30 km — Nagole to Miyapur through Ameerpet spread across two corridors: L.B. Nagar to Miyapur of Corridor One and Nagole to Hi-Tec City/Raidurg of Corridor Two — is expected to be ready by mid-November. Most likely, it will be available for public commuting thereafter once the inauguration is done and the other sections too will be opened as and when they are done in all respects. While the inaugural run will only provide a glimpse of the electric vehicles which will go around surrounding colonies to provide the first and last mile connectivity, this service and also the common smart ticket for multi-mode transport where a passenger can seamlessly move from road transport, ground rail MMTS service and metro rail will take some time as per the Minister’s assertions during the media interaction. Same goes with proposed parking complexes. While land has been earmarked at 32 stations besides the depots at Miyapur, Nagole and Falaknuma, private landowners too are going to be involved in building multi-level complexes along the metro rail corridors and this could take up to a year or more. With regard to the central median being constructed making it difficult for citizens to cross, the Minister said that with a metro station every kilometre with four different entries and exits, these will also double up as foot over bridges to enable safe crossovers. On criticism about metro projects of other cities being quicker off the blocks, the Minister said, “We wanted to have end to end — Nagole to Ameerpet (17 km) and Ameerpet-Miyapur (13 km) — instead of opening just the 8 km Nagole-Mettuguda stretch which was ready 2 years ago. It would not have served any purpose as the road below too was about 150 ft,” he said.
