NPF to withdraw support to BJP-led government in Manipur

GUWAHATI: Having parted ways with its long-time ally BJP in Nagaland , the Naga People's Front (NPF) has, in principle, decided to sever ties with BJP in neighbouring Manipur , where it has four legislators. A formal decision will be taken soon after the election in Nagaland.The move will have no significant impact on the BJP-led Biren Singh government, which will still have 36 members after NPF's exit. In the 60-member Manipur assembly, BJP has half the total number of MLAs, while its partners NPF and National People's Party (NPP) have four seats each. LJP has one seat and an Independent legislator supports the coalition. On Sunday, N Nimbus Singh, general secretary of Manipur's BJP unit, had said the NPF-BJP split in Nagaland would not affect the coalition government in Manipur."The final decision will be taken by the central executive council, probably after the Nagaland election. At the moment, all party members are busy with campaigning," NPF press secretary Sebastian Zumvu said.
