On Saturday, Itanagar and Pasighat in Arunachal Pradesh recorded temperatures of 37.8 and 37.6 degree Celsius. In Silchar, Assam , the maximum temperature soared upto 37.6 degree Celsius. Other stations in the northeast that recorded high temperature are Dibrugarh (37.2 degree Celsius), Tezpur (37 degree Celsius), North Lakhimpur (37.1 degree Celsius), Dhubri (35.1 degree Celsius), Jorhat (35 degree Celsius) and Agartala (34.4 degree Celsius).In Guwahati, commuters had a hard time in negotiating the heat on Saturday. Most of them were seen drinking coconut water on the streets or cold beverages to quench their thirst. In many parts of the state, people preferred to stay inside theirs offices or homes to escape the heat.According to the Met office, conditions will become favourable for further advancement of the southwest monsoon into remaining parts of the northeast in the next 48 hours, resulting in widespread rainfall in several parts of the region.Widespread rain is likely to lash Assam and Meghalaya from Monday to Wednesday. Nagaland Mizoram and Tripura are likely to experience widespread rainfall from Sunday itself.Predictions of shower in Arunachal Pradesh have also been issued for the next week.The IMD forest stated that moderate rain, accompanied by thundershowers, is very likely to occur at many places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, while light to moderate rain with thundershowers is very likely to occur at a few places over Assam and Meghalaya in the next 24 hours.Light rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh during the period.
