IMPHAL: In one of the biggest drug hauls of recent times, the police have seized narcotic substances worth Rs 28 crore and arrested eight persons from different parts of the state in a series of raids in the last 24 hours. The places raided included the official residence of Lukhosei Zou, chairman of the autonomous district council-Chandel (ADC-Chandel), who was taken into custody. The drugs - 4.6 kg of heroin and 2,80,200 World is Yours (WY) tablets - were seized by Narcotics and Affairs of Borders (NAB).Following a tip-off, a NAB team led by additional SP Th Brinda arrested three persons from Moreh. Based on information recieved from two of those arrested, the ADC chairman's driver, was arrested in Imphal , sources said.Thangminlun led the police team to his house at Langol game village, from where the cops seized a large amount of heroin and WY tablets.A joint team of NAB and police raided the quarters of the ADC chairman and seized 2 lakh WY tablets on Tuesday One 0.32 NPB pistol with 21 bullets, one SBBL rifle, two gun licence books, a two-wheeler, Rs 95,000 in old currency notes and Rs 13.03 lakh in new currency notes were seized from the possession of ADC chairman Lukhosei, 51, who was taken into custody. His PROs Jamkhohao, 28, and Minlal Mate, 22, were also arrested from his house.Upon further disclosure made by Mung, one Lawrence Zou, 50, was arrested from Mantripukhri along with 80,000 WY tablets and Rs 42,000 cash.Deputy inspector general of police Themthing Ngashangva said an investigation was on and the police were looking for more individuals as part of the ongoing war against drugs.
