Retired IPS officer, 3 others abducted

IMPHAL: Four people including a retired IPS officer were abducted by unidentified armed men at Sekmai in Imphal West district, police said on Friday.A Kunjo Singh, a retired India Reserve Battalion commandant, and three others were out on an evening walk along the Sekmai-Khurukhul Road. "A group of men got out of a car and abducted them at gunpoint around 6pm on Thursday," a resident of the area said. While it is too early to indicate which group they belong to, it appears to be a gang of extortionists," Singh said. All police stations have been alerted to coordinate with the search exercise," he added. "Soon after receiving the report, police commandos launched a widespread search operation headed by senior officers in the Imphal West and Imphal East districts," DIG (Range One) K Jayanta Singh, in charge of the two districts, told TOI.
