MU crisis: Lathicharge on agitating students in Imphal

Later, students went to the nearby BJP office and pulled down posters of party leaders, prompting police to weild batons.Meanwhile, the indefinite relay hunger strike launched by MU Students' Union, MU Teachers' Association and MU Staff Association seeking the VC's ouster entered eight day on Monday. IMPHAL: At least eight volunteers of the Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (Desam) were injured on Monday when police resorted to lathicharge at the gate of the BJP office in Imphal city.Demanding removal of Manipur University (MU) VC Adya Prashad Pandey , Desam members stormed the gate of the Imphal Raj Bhawan and the nearby BJP office in the afternoon. The Desam is supporting the protest jointly launched by the students, teachers and staff of MU, accusing the VC of administrative and financial irregularities.Owing to the crisis gripping the Centre-run varsity, results of the semester examinations of different graduation courses have been put on hold.

The three bodies, while objecting to the composition of the probe panel set up by the Centre, said the committee should be headed by at least a retired chief justice of a high court.On the other hand, chief minister N Biren Singh on Monday met Union HRD minister Prakash Javadekar for the second consecutive day to resolve the growing MU crisis, a source said.
