Manipur sends first organic pineapples to New Delhi

IMPHAL: In a major milestone for the Manipur Horticulture and Soil Conservation (HSC) department, one metric tonne of organic pineapples grown in the state was airlifted from Imphal airport to New Delhi for the first time on Sunday. The pineapples are produced by organic pineapple growers of Thayong, Andro and Waithou Chiru areas, where the queen variety is cultivated; and Bunglon and Khousabung, where the kew variety is cultivated. "The HSC department had tied up with NE Agro Products , a Gurgaon-based company, for selling fresh organic and chemical-free pineapples for 'queen' and 'kew' varieties, said a statement issued by the information and public relations department. HSC minister Th Shyamkumar said, "This a new dawn for organic farmers.
