Four vehicles torched during Zeliangrong civil bodies' bandh

IMPHAL: At least four vehicles were burnt and another damaged along the Imphal-Jiribam highway on Thursday by suspected supporters of various Zeliangrong civil organisations which called a 24-hour bandh in "Zeliangrong areas" .Zeliangrong Baudi (ZB) , Zeliangrong Youth Front (ZYF), Assam Manipur and Nagaland and All Zeliangrong Students' Union (AZSU) jointly called the bandh and imposed ban on national projects in protest the government's alleged failure to book NSCN (I-M) cadres allegedly involved in the abduction of ZYF and Zeliangrong student leaders.In the first attack, two trucks loaded with onion and potatoes coming from Jiribam towards Imphal were torched at the Saijang and Tupul areas in the early morning, police sources said.Around 11 am, two mini passenger buses were also burnt and another vehicle was damaged by suspected bandh supporters at the Keiphundai area, the sources added.There have been no reports of pulling up the miscreants involved in torching and damaging the vehicles till the time of filing this report.
