IMPHAL: Opposition Congress on Thursday demonstrated in front of the office of the Reserve Bank of India in Thangmeiband in Imphal West in protest against two years of demonetisation of the NDA government. They said the move had done nothing but fuelled people's misery.Ridiculing Congress for its protest, BJP said demonetisation had strengthened the country's economy and everyone had praised their ability to take up a challenge of this nature."Demonetisation has worsened the state of the small and tiny industries. Farmers and the poor are still suffering," said Manipur PCC president and senior legislator TN Haokip. Stressing that the International Monetary Fund had already warned that if the trend continued the nation would face its worst financial crisis, Haokip demanded dissolution of the BJP-led NDA government and resignation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the blunder.Echoing Haokip, Manipur PCC vice-president and former MLA T Mangibabu questioned the Centre as to where the black money the Prime Minister had assured to distribute among the people after demonetisation had gone. "People suffered a lot because of demonetisation," said Mangibabu as a large number of Congress leaders and workers held aloft anti-demonetisation placards.Opposing the Congress demonstration, Manipur unit BJP treasurer Robin Blackie said demonetisation was a big step taken by BJP against black money. "Despite the (then) Planning Commission recommending the then Congress government to take up demonetisation, it was not done," Blackie added.
