The Union home ministry has already said that the bill will not be implemented without the prior consent of the concerned state governments, he added. People should not stage blockades and call bandhs as these agitations hamper the economic development of the state, Biren said.Meanwhile, the regional North East Development Party (NEIDP) on Sunday began a signature campaign against the bill. NEIDP president Narengbam Samarjit Singh and three central working committee vice-presidents flagged off the campaign at the party’s head office at Tera bazar in Imphal West.

The Manipur People’s Bill, which was earlier passed by the state assembly, will ascertain that the Centre cannot impose any legislation unilaterally without the consent of the state government, Biren said.The chief minister also appealed to the people to understand the proposed legislation in detail before resorting to protests. People should not stage blockades and call bandhs as these agitations hamper the economic development of the state, Biren said.Meanwhile, the regional North East Development Party (NEIDP) on Sunday began a signature campaign against the bill. NEIDP president Narengbam Samarjit Singh and three central working committee vice-presidents flagged off the campaign at the party’s head office at Tera bazar in Imphal West. “We will reach out to all sections of the society across the valley and hill districts. Our campaign will continue until the bill is scrapped,” said NEIDP central working committee vice-president Sapam Kunjakishore.
