ExDGP of Manipur special police observer for two states

AGARTALA: The Election Commission has appointed retired Manipur DGP K Das as special central police observer for Tripura and Mizoram. The letter alleged that miscreants backed by the ruling BJP violated the model code of conduct by attacking candidates, leaders, workers and supporters of CPM after the election dates wqere announced. It demanded registering of suo moto FIRs on incidents of attacks on the basis of written complaints and immediate arrest of all the rowdies.The committee also asked for deployment of paramilitary forces in areas where post-poll violence occurred after the assembly election results were last year for creating a suitable atmosphere for polls. In addition, retired DG of BSF, KK Sharma, has been appointed for a similar role in West Bengal and Jharkhand , sources said here on Wednesday.On the other hand, the CPM’s Tripura state committee, in a letter to chief electoral officer, has demanded appropriate measures to ensure free, fair and peaceful conduct of Lok Sabha election in the state on April 11 and 18.
