The BJP has suffered a major setback at the party level in Manipur. BJP Manipur president Professor S Tikendra Singh (69) succumbed to Covid-19 in a hospital in Imphal on Thursday evening. He recently tested positive for Covid-19 on April 27 and was receiving treatment at Shija hospital in Imphal.
Manipur CM N Biren Singh, BJP National President JP Nadda and Union Minister Kiren Rijiju condoled Singh`s death.
N. Biren Singh wrote on his official Facebook account that retired professor Singh worked tirelessly and selflessly towards the BJP`s ideology and everyone loved him in Manipur.
Singh was appointed as the president of the BJP`s Manipur unit in June 2020.
The national president of the party JP Nadda has expressed deep sorrow over Singh`s death on Twitter.

Manipur received the highest ever 666 new cases of Covid-19 on Wednesday, pushing the state tally past 37000 to 37,036.
