More than two hundred Bnei Menashe Jews have gathered in Delhi to go to Israel, but many of them could not go due to Covid-19. When these people staying in a hotel in Karolbagh of the capital Delhi reached the airport, 40 of them tested positive in the Covid-19 test. All have been admitted to Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Covid Care Center in Gurdwara Rakabganj Sahib. They do not have any serious symptoms.

The group took their tests on May 28, but the results, including the positive ones, were received on May 30, the day of their flight.

What is the connection with Israel?

All of them, headed to Israel, belong to the Bnei Menashe community. There are more than ten thousand Jewish people of the Bnei Menashe community living in the northeastern states of Manipur and Mizoram. These people of the Benei Menashe community believe that they belong to the Menache community, which is one of the 12 tribes of Israel. In the last two decades, a large number of people from the Jewish community have gone to Israel.

These people of the Jewish community have a desire to settle there and they are also being given citizenship by the Israeli government. A large number of the Jewish community from the Churachandpur district of Manipur have also settled in Israel, while many are yet to go there. Many of them believe that their ancestors are from there and they want to return to their land.?
