Manipur imposes night curfew for 15 days, completely removes day curfew

The Manipur government has lifted the day curfew and imposed a night curfew in the state for 15 days from August 8 to 22. State Chief Secretary Dr Rajesh Kumar issued an order in this regard.

While also taking necessary measures for public health protection with respect to economic activities in respect of seven districts and allowing a number of activities in respect of the remaining nine districts, the order stated that a curfew will be strictly enforced between night hours from 6 pm to 5 am.

The order said that "the Deputy Commissioner shall issue necessary orders and the Superintendent of Police shall take necessary action for strict enforcement of the orders." Total curfew was imposed in seven districts of the state on 18 July to contain the spread of Covid-19. According to a press release issued by the Health Department on Saturday evening, the state cabinet reviewed the curfew imposed for 21 days to control the Covid-19 spread.

"In order to maintain a balance with livelihood and economic activities, it has been decided to discontinue the curfew and adopt a micro containment zone approach in line with the advice of the Central Government," the statement said. "Gram panchayats, village authorities, local clubs etc. will be fully involved in ensuring strict micro containment zones and isolation of fresh positive cases by the Deputy Commissioners," he said.
