IMPHAL: Chief minister N Biren Singh 's promise to transform Manipur into a thriving, developed state, saw the BJP government introducing hordes of schemes in its first 100 days in office.Besides bringing to an end the four-month United Naga Council (UNC)-sponsored economic blockade on national highways and the nearly two-year agitation in Churachandpur, the state government opened an anti-corruption cell, cyber crime police station and a fast-track court for tackling crimes against women.Among other welfare schemes, the government reintroduced the state transport service after almost a decade and launched a welfare scheme for journalists. The government also dedicated two days in a month exclusively for people to meet officials, ministers and the chief minister to hear out their complaints and suggestions. But the opposition Congress accused the government of taking credit for projects taken up by the former government.Sharing his government's achievements, the chief minister urged the people to take advantage of the welfare schemes. The chief minister stressed that the government was working round the clock to ensure progress in Manipur. The momentum of growth and development would not slacken, he assured, on the contrary, it would get a further push.Stating that implementation is the most crucial part projects, he said, "Officials concerned should monitor and review the progress and implementation of the programmes."Singh further said that in addition to the anti-corruption cell, a grievance cell would be opened at the chief minister's secretariat to entertain problems of the people. His next target is to improve road connectivity and communications in the hill areas.Praising the chief minister, BJP leader Ram Madhav said the achievements in the 100 days are just the beginning. "The government has done a lot of good work and is committed to achieving milestones of success in the coming years," he said and added that the people will forever remember the present government for its outstanding performance in such a short period of time.Stating that education is the key to progress and development, he said Manipur should strive to achieve 100% literacy rate. In just 100 days, the government has constructed over 60 school buildings in the state, the BJP leader added.Congress spokesman Kh Joykishan Singh said the government should consult all 60 MLAs before taking up new projects. "The BJP should translate into action its promises that it would complete all the works in 15 months that the Congress could not implement in its 15-year-rule," said Joykishan."The government should take up long-term measures to control flash floods during rains," he added.Rapping the government further, Joykishan said the Congress government had made the same offer to the UNC that the new BJP government did as also to the Churachandpur agitators. It is surprising that the agitators agreed to a settlement with just one meeting with the new government. The people will soon find out what happened behind the deals, he said.Though the BJP had vowed to punish all those accused in cleaning the Loktak Lake, it is now keeping mum, Joykishan said. Senior Congress MLA K Ranjit termed the BJP government as an "advertising government".
