IMPHAL: Police on Wednesday seized a huge consignment of ganja, weighing around 1700 kg, from a truck in Imphal, the biggest haul of the contraband item in recent times.Each packet weighs 15-16 kg and the total value of the confiscated ganja is Rs 33 lakh in the local market and Rs 1 crore in the international grey market, SP ( Imphal East ) Kabib K said. The driver of the truck - Md Imran Khan from Kshetri Bengoon area in the same district - was also arrested. "To ascertain the origin and destination of the consignment as well as its owner and other aspects, we have begun investigation after registering an FIR," the senior police officer told TOI. Ganja grown in the state is considered the best in the country as drug barons are demanding it in bulk, said drug analysts.Acting on a tipoff about trafficking of ganja, a team of Imphal East district police and narcotics cell sleuths of the police department raided a truck parked near a local bus stand here around 1.30pm and found 107 packets of the contraband item.
