Manipur's Muslim bodies seek deputy CM's resignation

IMPHAL: A Facebook post by deputy chief minister Yumnam Joykumar Singh 's son, Yumnam Devjit, has drawn the ire of several Muslim civil bodies in the state. "The Manipur Muslim Welfare Organization staged a brief road blockade at the Hatta area here on Wednesday evening, demanding Devjit's arrest and his father's resignation. They have demanded Devjit's arrest and Joykumar's resignation on moral grounds.Devjit had, on Eid-ul-adha, posted," Kurbani Kaina, sha hatpa, mi hatpa heina ba practice touhanbani ni. President of the organization Abdula Pathan said Devjit's comment is an insult to the Muslim community and that Qurbani is a holy practice in Islam.The Muslim Council Manipur, the All Manipur Muslim Development Committee and the Lilong local council (Thoubal district) of the All India Tanzeem-e-Insaaf also demanded that the state government take action against Devjit for hurting the religious sentiments of the Muslims of the state.The All Manipur Muslim Organization Coordinating Committee on Wednesday lodged a complaint against Devjit with the cyber crime unit of the Imphal West police station.
