IMPHAL: Chief minister N Biren Singh on Monday said the eight Manipuri girls, who were rescued from the clutches of human traffickers from Yangon a couple of days ago, will be deported to Manipur soon. The girls, all from KukiChin-Mizo dominated Churachandpur district, are currently under the protection of police at Yangon. "All the girls are safe. They will be deported soon," said Biren , who also holds the home portfolio. He added that the process for taking back the girls to the state has been already started.The CM said this on the sidelines of a programme held under the banner of 'Chinmaya Mission' at the historic INA memorial hall at Moirang in Bishnupur district. On Saturday afternoon, the girls made a distress call to the office of the SP, requesting him to rescue them, a source said. The state home department immediately contacted the Indian embassy officials at Yangon after getting the information, he added. The Indian embassy officials, with the help of Myanmar Police, rescued the girls from a hotel near Yangon railway station.
