President Kovind to embark on 4-day northeast visit on Sunday

ITANAGAR: President Ram Nath Kovind will arrive here on Sunday on his maiden visit to the state to begin his four-day tour to the northeast. CorCom also called for a statewide general strike from 5 am of November 21 till 8 am of the following day to protest Kovind's visit. The President will also attend a civic reception organized by Gauhati University.He will then visit Manipur on November 21 to inaugurate the the annual 10-day Sangai Tourism Festival and the North East Development Summit in Imphal . He will visit Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Manipur and attend several programmes.On Sunday, he will attend a function here at Indira Gandhi Park which is being organized by the Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya Alumni Association to mark 40 years of Vivekananda Kendra. The three-day programme will organize cultural programmes dedicated to Rabindranath Tagore, Kazi Nazrul Islam and Bhupen Hazarika.

He will visit Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Manipur and attend several programmes.On Sunday, he will attend a function here at Indira Gandhi Park which is being organized by the Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya Alumni Association to mark 40 years of Vivekananda Kendra. Later in the day, he will also dedicate the newly constructed assembly building of Arunachal to the people and address legislators at a special assembly session.On November 20, Kovind will attend the closing ceremony of Namami Barak festival at Silchar. The three-day programme will organize cultural programmes dedicated to Rabindranath Tagore, Kazi Nazrul Islam and Bhupen Hazarika. The President will also attend a civic reception organized by Gauhati University.He will then visit Manipur on November 21 to inaugurate the the annual 10-day Sangai Tourism Festival and the North East Development Summit in Imphal . He will also visit the INA war memorial at Moirang on November 22 before leaving for Delhi.The President's visit to Manipur is being boycotted by the CorCom, a coordination committee of some of the most powerful insurgent outfits in the state. CorCom also called for a statewide general strike from 5 am of November 21 till 8 am of the following day to protest Kovind's visit.
