We’re ready to host NE Development Summit: Biren Singh

IMPHAL: Chief minister N Biren Singh said here on Sunday the state is all prepared to host the first ever North East Development Summit (NEDS). President Ram Nath Kovind will inaugurate the Manipur Sangai Festival and the two-day summit at a city convention centre here on Tuesday. United Nations resident co-ordinator, Yuri Afanasiev and high commissioner of Malaysia, Dato Hidayat Abdul Hamid will also attend the event. Adding that preparations have almost been completed, Biren sought the support and co-operation of the people to make the upcoming event a grand success.The CM pointed out that the primary objective of the summit is to showcase the economic potential of the state and attract outside investors in areas like food processing industry, bamboo industry, fisheries and real estate. Around 20 Memorandum of Understandings (MOUs) are expected to be signed between various state departments, and national and international companies and investors, the CM added.Altogether 175 delegates will take part in the summit which will be attended by Union minister for commerce and industries, Suresh Prabhu, the chief ministers of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland, and the director of India Foundation, Ram Madhav.

NITI Ayaog vicechairman Rajeev Kumar, ministers and officials from the northeastern states, ambassadors, high commissioners and officials from various countries including Malaysia, China, Japan, Sweden and Taiwan are also expected to attend the event, said a release issued by the CM's secretariat.Around 36 associations from across the country, including the likes of FICCI, CII, NASSCOM, Border Trade Moreh, Myanmar India Business Chamber and India Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce, are also participating in the summit, it added. United Nations resident co-ordinator, Yuri Afanasiev and high commissioner of Malaysia, Dato Hidayat Abdul Hamid will also attend the event.
