IMPHAL: Controversy has erupted after a video clip went viral on social networking sites showing an angry woman arguing with Union tourism minister KJ Alfons Kannanthan at Imphal airport over flight delay owing to the alleged movement of VVIPs on Tuesday.Nirala, a final year PG student of the Imphal-based Regional Institute of Medical Sciences , had to reach Patna in time to join her brother's funeral. But her flight was delayed for hours owing to the movement of some ministers and VVIPs.Hordes of Union ministers and and senior officials landed here on Tuesday to attend the inaugural function of the 10-day Manipur Sangai Festival and two-day Northeast Development Summit in Imphal. President Ram Nath Kovind , who inaugurated the festival, also arrived in Imphal the same day. This caused delay in flight movement and Nirala's plane to Kolkata was also late by two hours for which she missed her conecting flight to Patna. In the video clip, Nirala is seen asking the Union minister the reasons for which her flight got delayed."She was crying and I wanted to know what happened. She started saying that she had to go to Patna to attend a relative's funeral which was scheduled in the afternoon. She was distraught because her flight was delayed and she feared the body will decay. As a representative of the Government of India, she wanted me to intervene," Alphons told PTI, amid allegations that he was the cause of the delay of the flight.He added, "I told her that the President's flight was landing and as per protocol, no other flight can land or take off at that time. This protocol is in place for the past 70 years and not made by this government. I tried to tell her that her flight will leave as soon as the President's flight lands."
