Mandsaur firing: Former SHO appears before probe panel

INDORE: The then in-charge of Pipliyamandi police station Anil Singh Thakur on Wednesday appeared before the single-bench commission, which is leading a judicial probe into killing of five farmers in the Mandsaur police firing, to record his statements.The proceeding started at 11.30 am and lasted till 5 pm. The single-bench is likely to extend the ongoing proceedings to record statements of remaining 14 government witnesses including the then district magistrate, Swatantra Kumar Singh and the then superintendent of police (SP), OP Tripathi in days to come” Shah said. During this, chief examination of Thakur over around 100 FIRs, filed by the local police and affected people of the firing and post incidents of loots and arsons reported at Pipliyamandi police station, was carried out before the commission headed by high court Judge (retired), JK Jain.“Thakur’s statements could not be completed during the day-long proceeding and thus, the remaining part will be recorded on Thursday,” secretary Padmesh Shah told TOI.On the second day, Thakur is expected to record his statement regarding the protest and action taken by the cops deployed at the police station.Soon after the incident, Thakur was removed from field duties in connection with firing on farmers.“Thus far, as many as 12 government witnesses including cops have appeared before the commission while four have given up.
