IMC removal drive IMC begins removal of sheds in Azad Nagar area for sewage treatment plant

Indore: Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) started demolition of temporary structures in Azad Nagar area on Monday as part of its anti-encroachment drive.As many as 125 families had been living in temporary sheds on the stretch from Azaad Nagar and Samvid Nagar.A team of 100 civic body workers and officials reached the area at 10 am and started vacating the temporary houses . Fifteen dumpers and an earth mover were also pressed into service.At first, the civic body had to face protest from the occupants, but they were pacified with intervention of police. The drive continued till late evening. “The occupants were not ready to vacate the area, owing to which we had to use force to remove them. It will take one more day or so to clear all encroachments from the area,” IMC deputy commissioner MS Chouhan said.He said that people had constructed tin sheds on the stretch, where a sewage treatment plant has been proposed to be installed.Alternative arrangements have been made for the occupants in Nayta Mundla area. “All the 125 occupants will be provided transit sheds near regional transport office in Nayta Mundla area and later given alternate houses under a government housing scheme,” Chouhan said.The proposed sewage treatment plant will be of 35MLD capacity. It will be used for treatment of Kanh river water between Azad Nagar and Samvid Nagar. It will connect 65 km of sewerage in the area, besides cleaning the water of Kanh river.This project is a part of IMC’s plan to set up five new sewage treatment plants in city. The civic body will spend Rs183 crore on this whole project. This will also include laying a dedicated sewerage of 183 km in total. “The civic body has already completed initial formalities of this project, but it could not be taken up because of encroachments,” an official of Narmada Project said.
