Indore: If the forest department had done its job right, the forests in the state wouldn’t have been cut down to such extent, the Tree Man of India, Vishnu Lamba, said on his visit to Indore on Thursday.He also condemned the 14-day strike of forest workers in the state which had resulted in cutting down of trees in several parts of the state.Lamba, 31, spoke about the diminishing forests and the way to save them. He said that the forests in Madhya Pradesh were the most threatened ones in the country.“The Dasyu tribe, which is often perceived as a group of dacoits of Beehad, can be a great asset to government in saving the area of Chambal, which is facing threat of illegal mining, and deforestation,” Lamba said while addressing a press conference.He criticised the state government for planting 6 crore saplings in one day without ensuring their proper care. He is waiting for the reply to an RTI application seeking the details of saplings planted in the state to inspect their condition.“Such plantations done without planning are of no use as a very less percentage of these plants are able to survive. For such drives to be successful we need public participation, depending only on the government won’t help us at all,” Lamda added.He pledged to never enter politics and evaded the question of his entry in politics ahead of the elections.Lamba also planted trees on Press Club premises on the occasion. He also spoke about the species of plants, which can survive in any conditions with minimum water requirements. “Guggul, aakda and kaith are some trees, which can grow with minimum water. Every household must plant trees and continue towards making environment greener,” the tree man said.
