Weather story June 21 Pre-monsoon showers lash Indore again

Indore: Another bout of pre-monsoon showers lashed the city on Thursday evening, giving a relief from heat.At 8:30pm, 17.6mm rainfall was recorded, the maximum in one single day this season, taking the season’s total above 60mm. Low lying areas submerged and waterlogging was witnessed at major squares and roads.The showers were a result of pre-monsoonal activity. The arrival of monsoon in state will be by June 25 as per latest prediction by Met. “The monsoon is expected to enter from Bay of Bengal side through Jabalpur division since the system there is stronger.

Heavy rainfall was reported in many areas, including Airport Road, central Indore, Vijay Nagar and Khajrana.“The rainfall is a huge relief for us since we can now finally foresee the end of our water woes. The same weather over the weekend will make for a perfect vacation,” a resident of Swasthya Nagar Kavita Jain said.While the downpour brought relief from the heat of the day, it also resulted in power cuts in some parts of the city. Low lying areas submerged and waterlogging was witnessed at major squares and roads.The showers were a result of pre-monsoonal activity. The arrival of monsoon in state will be by June 25 as per latest prediction by Met. “The monsoon is expected to enter from Bay of Bengal side through Jabalpur division since the system there is stronger. The northern monsoon limit from the Arabian sea is still halted at the border of the state,” Met Bhopal official Gurudutt Mishra said.He said that once the monsoon enters from the Bay of Bengal and its system develops, the moisture from the Arabian sea will rise quickly to cover the entire state.The relative humidity combined with the high day temperature which rose suddenly on Thursday, resulted in sweltering heat in the city. The relative humidity in the morning was 78 percent, whereas in the evening it was 37 percent. Maximum temperature recorded during the day was 38 degree Celsius, while minimum temperature was recorded at 24.4 degrees.
