The feed or images from the CCTV will be made available at the control room for monitoring.A senior official said that the cameras have been installed on trial basis and if found feasible, they will be installed at other platforms.“Until now, there was no automatic system for the rolling-in examination. It was done manually by railways staff at the end of platforms and their main job was to look for an unwanted sound, signs of heating or smoke or unusual hanging part in passing train,” the official said. The observation in manual system is not always accurate since it depends on alertness and attention of deputed staff. Usually the inspection is done at 30km/hr of speed limit, but a large number of trains fail to adhere to this speed in order to maintain punctuality. This move is a part of Western Railways initiative to reduce failure and accidents. Officials said that the installation of this system is at initial stage. “We are still working on it and this system will be made functional in few months,” they said.
