INDORE: Ragpicker's son Asharam Choudhary 's feat of cracking the AIIMS test in his first attempt and securing a seat in AIIMS-Jodhpur has opened new horizons for his family to break the shackles of poverty and secure their future.A day after TOI reported Asharam’s achievement, Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan assured him that the state government will take care of his education from now on. Dewas district collector Dr Shrikant Pandey felicitates Asharam“CM saheb congratulated me over phone and said he will issue directives to help me with the studies,” Ashraram said.Chouhan’s assurance came soon after helped poured in from different corners of the country for Asharam, with people offering financial help to further his education.Apollo Hospitals Group's founder chairman Dr Prathap Reddy swung into action soon after he heard about the news, making preparations to back Asharam in his quest of becoming a doctor.“Dr Reddy is keen to meet Asharam in Delhi and offer him financial assistance in pursuing his course. We have send an emissary to his home to work out modalities,” Apollo Hospitals Group medical director Dr Anupam Sibal told TOI.Hailing from a BPL family in Vijayganj Mandi, 40km from Dewas district, Asharam had cleared the NEET and got a seat in AIIMS-Jodhpur. His college fees are waived off due to his scores in the test, he was worried about his annual mess fees of Rs 36,000 and cost of books he would have to incur.His plight was noticed by many, including Harvinder Singh Khanduja, a businessman from Nagpur. “I will bear all his costs. I have spoken to him and working on how to do it,” he told TOI.Asharam, blushing with the attention he was receiving, said, “I am thankful to all those who are intending to help me. I don’t need too much money.., only enough for me to study.”But his family, including his brother Sitaram and sister Narmada, appears to have got more than what he had expected.Asharam was summoned by Dewas district collector Dr Shrikant Pandey, who handed over a cheque of Rs 25,000 as initial assistance.“We have given him the cheque and felicitated him for the feat,” Pandey said, adding “We will also see that his brother and sister get assistance if they do well in studies.”Asharam’s father Ranjit Choudhary, who does odd jobs to feed his family, had built a thatched house on small piece of land.
