Narmada water supply time to be cut by 30 minutes from today

Indore: Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) is going to decrease the duration of Narmada water supply in the city from Monday. It has decided to curtail the supply time by 20 to 30 minutes.IMC water works department in charge Balram Verma said that localities which were getting water for one-and-a-half hour will now receive the supply for one hour. “There has been significant rainfall, which has increased water level in the water bodies. We are going with a capital repair work of Narmada supply network and this has forced us to cut down the supply,” Verma said.Detailing about the issue, Verma said that due to shut down of first and second phase of Narmada supply network, the daily supply limit has gone down by 15 percent, and to avoid any shortage of water in city they had to take this decision. Besides, borewells in several parts of the city have also started functioning,” they said.

Also, some areas, which were receiving supply for one hour, will now get it for only 40 minutes.Water was being supplied for one-and-a-half hour in 60 percent of the localities in city, while the remaining areas were receiving the supply for one hour.“Our aim is to ensure equal distribution of Narmada water in the city. We are going with a capital repair work of Narmada supply network and this has forced us to cut down the supply,” Verma said.Detailing about the issue, Verma said that due to shut down of first and second phase of Narmada supply network, the daily supply limit has gone down by 15 percent, and to avoid any shortage of water in city they had to take this decision. “We are able to draw 360MLD water from Narmada through the third phase of supply network, which is around 50 MLD less than our daily supply limit,” he said.Verma said that the water will be supplied for short duration until completion of the repair work.“We have also issued instructions to our staff to follow the cut down and avoid any wastage or excess supply,” he said.Officials also felt hopeful that there will not be any shortage even after implementation of this cut down in supply quantity. “There has been significant rainfall, which has increased water level in the water bodies. Besides, borewells in several parts of the city have also started functioning,” they said.
