Artists in Indore have been experimenting a lot, over the years to do something different in their work. But who would have thought that a live painting event could be organized at Shamshaan ghat! Death is inevitable and crematories are considered as a path to ‘moksha’ for a soul. Having considered that, more than 32 artists, dressed up in white attires gathered up at the Rambagh Muktidham to create something as a symbol for mental peace.“We have gathered here because this place is very significant for mental peace and with the ongoing corruption, terrorism and violence in the world. There is a lot of chaos in the minds of people in their daily lives. This Rang Bhasm painting gathering at this ‘muktidham’ was initiated with a thought to bring about peace. There are reflections of this thought in every art-piece you will see here ”, says Pradeep Kanik, artiste and organiser of the event. The well-thought concept of colours to ashes was appreciated by a lot of other artists that paid a visit. Kaushal Soni talks about her work, “Fire is a very important element in the creation of this universe and it also leads to ashes of a being. I have tried to concentrate my work around the concept that we rise from fire and we end in fire” Another artiste who has been in the field of painting for more than 11 years, Deepak Panchal shares, “Everyone here has, in their own way tried to work for world peace. When there will be world peace, everyone will be content and with that prayer we have tried to create art-pieces devoted to that.”The artists tried to work around their own styles to showcase their feelings. Some sketched, some painted while there was a sculpture artist too among them all who had sculpted Late Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji’s statue as a tribute to him. “With the passing away of such a great personality amongst us, and the inception of Rang-Bhasm, I felt a dire need to pay my tribute to him in my way of art. I wanted to do something for him with my artwork”, says Ajay Punyasi.Everyone has their way of expressing, some people express in words, some express through gestures, while there are some people like these who express through art.- Udbhavi Upadhyay
