Indore: Bharat bandh called by Congress against rise in fuel prices disrupted normal life in Indore on Monday. At some places, Congress activities distributed roses to shopkeepers to participate in bandh. City roads wore a deserted look as most of educational institutions, business establishments, except medical and dairy shops remained shut.Congress members took to streets early on Monday and urged shopkeepers to extend their support to day-long nationwide protest and keep shops closed. He was taken to nearby hospital.

Local leaders including former MLA Ashwin Joshi, Tulsi Silawat, city wing working president Vinay Bakliwal and Sailesh Garg gathered in front of Rajwada and raised slogans against Centre and state government.“It’s a peaceful protest by Congress, in which, the entire district has participated as people are affected due to the unexpected rise in fuel prices,” Bakliwal said.During the protest, Congress leader Ashok Jaiswal fell off his two-wheeler in Rajmohalla area and sustained injuries. He was taken to nearby hospital. While patrolling, CSP Jyoti Umath was injured when her vehicle was hit by speeding ibus at Industry House.In Mhow, Congress activist Lakshman Dholi and others reached a petrol pump near Orpheum Talkies square and asked owner Sanjay Biyani to keep it shut. When he refused to close it, workers allegedly threw oil on poster of PM Narendra Modi installed at the station.Following the incident, senior police officers and Mhow SDM Pratul Sinha reached the pump and brought situation under control.SP (west) Siddharth Bahuguna said a case against Congress leaders Pappu Khan, Ankit Dholi and one other was registered.
