Compost your waste at home and get 50 rebate on garbage collection charges

Indore: City residents opting for home composting or have started 100 percent composting of bio-degradable waste of their house will now get a 50% rebate in their monthly user charges for door-to-door garbage collection. “Citizens have been demanding for a rebate in monthly user charges for door-to-door garbage collection work. “We aim to reduce wet waste generation by 30 tonnes by the end of this year,” added officials. It includes 600 tonnes of wet waste. Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) has been encouraging citizens to do composing of bio-degradable waste as it is eco-friendly too.

Indore: City residents opting for home composting or have started 100 percent composting of bio-degradable waste of their house will now get a 50% rebate in their monthly user charges for door-to-door garbage collection. The rebate is meant for only domestic users.An announcement about it was made in anticipation that a proposal in this regard will be given approval by the mayor-in-council (MIC) soon. Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) has been encouraging citizens to do composing of bio-degradable waste as it is eco-friendly too. It has also started providing home composter units to the citizens, who are willing to opt for home composting.The civic body has already fixed monthly user charge for door-to-door garbage collection work between Rs60 and Rs150. “Citizens who have started composting of food waste of their houses will get 50% rebate in their user charge,” said mayor Malini Gaud in an official note, on Wednesday.IMC commissioner Asheesh Singh said that this initiative is in line to promote on spot disposal of wet waste. “We aim to promote home composting in 50,000 households in city by the end of November,” he said.He claimed that at present 2500 households in city have already started cent percent composting of bio-degradable waste of their house. “Citizens have been demanding for a rebate in monthly user charges for door-to-door garbage collection work. After which a decision in this regard has been taken up by IMC,” he added.The civic body has also announced to give certification for first 500 households, which have started composting wet garbage in their premises. Gaud is scheduled to hand over the certificates to these families on Thursday during the launch of this scheme.At present, IMC collects 1100metric tonnes of waste from households in a year. It includes 600 tonnes of wet waste. “We aim to reduce wet waste generation by 30 tonnes by the end of this year,” added officials.
